Trauma counselling Nelson NZ
Do you have trouble dealing with a traumatic experience?
Was the experience so overwhelming that you cannot get over it? If so it would be good to talk to a counsellor about the event and learn skills for coping with it, to allow it to settle as a memory.
A traumatic reaction can be that your keep relieving the experience in your head as you try to push it away. You may have flash-backs or nightmares or other reactions that are outside of your usual equilibrium and this is called PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Trauma & PTSD
PTSD can occur years or decades after an event (or after a series of traumatic events) and this is a natural response from the brain in coping with an abnormal situation.
During the counselling sessions with me, you will learn how to understand and process the traumatic experience in a new way so that the usual fear or other overwhelming responses are diminished.
Feel free to contact one of us if you have any questions, or if you would like to make an appointment.
